Is a 36” x 36” piece, and one of the newer pieces. This is one of the more fun individual art works in the show. It represents my feelings of being detached. In the painting there are three very tall chairs, with legs that are extraordinarily long, coming from the ground, a mixture of browns and yellows, signifying where they’re grounded. The rest of the painting, most of it being a pinkish hue, shows where the chairs reach into that high area above the ground. Two of the chairs, with their legs facing different directions and certainly not in, as we would recognize, perfect perspective, are drawn this way because I wanted to express the feelings of being a little askew, when you’re up in the mindset of whatever you’re focusing on. There’s a third chair on the left of the painting of which the legs appear to be ladders, and this is a symbol of where, either I have to climb down to come back into reality or people have to climb up to find me where I’m up in the fog. This whole painting is about those times where I’m focusing on something so much that I feel separated from reality, I feel as though I’m hovering somewhere above the rest of my life, lost in a particular thought or situation, whether it be because I’m working in my studio on my paintings or if I’ve got some major thing I need to focus on in my life at the moment, perhaps someone’s ill or there’s a problem, or there’s even just something fun that we’re doing and it completely detaches me from everything else. I’m able to escape the reality for the moment and be in whatever fog I’m focusing on. Which is why I say it’s more of a fun painting because it’s resembling all the times when I, and I’m sure other people have the same experience, feel so detached from everything else, you’re up in the fog and you’re not really aware of everything that is going on around you in reality.
